VRS Receives Certificate of Transparency From NCPERS

RICHMOND April 4, 2025 -

The National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems recently presented the Virginia Retirement System with a Certificate of Transparency for encouraging an “atmosphere of openness” between public pension systems and the general population and for sharing data that serves as a key industry resource.

VRS received the certificate for its participation in the 2025 NCPERS Public Retirement Systems Study. Approximately 200 state and local government pension funds shared information on fiscal, operational and business practices. The collaborative effort helps public pension systems benchmark performance and provides valuable insights into public sector retirement trends.

NCPERS commended VRS for fostering open disclosure, broadening the range of available data and contributing to a clearer understanding of public retirement systems.

NCPERS is the largest trade association for public sector pension funds, representing approximately 500 funds throughout the United States and Canada. NCPERS focuses on advocacy, research and education for the benefit of public sector pension stakeholders.
