Virginia Retirement System Honored for Transparency

RICHMOND April 26, 2023 -

The National Conference on Public Employee Retirement Systems (NCPERS) recently presented the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) with a Certificate of Transparency for fostering an “atmosphere of openness” between public pension systems and the general population.

VRS received the certificate for its participation in the 2023 NCPERS Public Retirement Systems Study. The 195 participating plans shared information on plan design, investment allocation and returns, actuarial assumptions and plan governance practices. Study results are available online at ncpers.org/public-retirement-systems-study.

NCPERS commended VRS for furthering open disclosure, increasing the range of data available for learning and contributing to a clearer understanding of public retirement systems.

NCPERS is the largest trade association for public sector pension funds, representing approximately 500 funds throughout the United States and Canada. NCPERS works to promote and protect pensions by focusing on advocacy, research and education for the benefit of public sector pension stakeholders.
