On the Road of Life, Make Sure You Bring Your Map

Encourage Plan 1 employees to view their MBP through their myVRS online accounts using the following resources. Also direct them to About Your Member Benefit Profile to learn more about their annual benefit statement. Plan 2 employees do not have MBPs. However, they can view their current member account and other information on their myVRS Account Home page.

Your Member Benefit Profile (MBP) helps you map your retirement strategy. This is your online benefits statement providing important information about your retirement and other benefits as of June 30, 2012, and you can find it in your myVRS online account.

Retirement income on target? One of your MBP’s most important features is a retirement income gap analysis. This feature shows a total retirement income estimate compared to a retirement income target of 80 percent of your compensation as of June 30, 2012. The retirement income estimate combines your estimated unreduced benefit, a Social Security estimate and an estimated annuity from your Commonwealth of Virginia 457 Plan Deferred Compensation Plan account, if applicable. Your analysis includes tips for “closing the gap” between your estimated retirement income and your 80 percent benchmark.

Do You Have Non-Vested Plan 1 Employees?

Because plan provisions will change for Plan 1 employees who are not vested by January 1, 2013, the MBPs for these employees do not include retirement projections but do provide a summary of other information from their member records. If you have non-vested Plan 1 employees, you received a list of these employees to assist you in communicating plan changes to them. For resources and more information to help you communicate these changes to these employees, go to www.varetire.org/actnow-er.
